Yes! Accessible Media Inc., or AMI, is a not-for-profit multimedia organization with the mission to make all media accessible to all Canadians, this includes being television accessible. AMI runs two broadcast services available on all basic cable packages. The first channel is referred to as AMI. A dedicated channel where descriptive narration is provided. There is audio and visual on this channel. The other channel is referred to as AMI Audio. A 24 hour a day reading of newspapers from across Canada. Magazine articles including feature reports and clips of interest to people with disabilities. The TV screen is black. These resources are legislated through the CRTC to be provided free of charge. Telus runs AMI on channel 55 and AMI Audio on 56. Shaw runs it on channel 888 and 889. Call your cable provider for the channels in your area.
