When going out for the evening planning ahead can save many headaches.
ASK! Make sure to CALL AHEAD and ask if the place you are going can accommodate you and your group. BE SPECIFIC about your use of adaptive equipment and service dogs. CALL AHEAD to theaters to make sure you can get in and comfortably seated for the evening. Some restaurants and older theaters only have stairs and are not retrofitted with elevators. In our family we have me and my brother who use guide dogs for mobility. My dad has Parkinson’s disease and uses a walker or scooter. My step-father has ALD and uses a scooter. This means when we get together for an evening out we call ahead to make sure we can all be accommodated. Sometimes this means adjusting the time we want to eat to a time when the restaurant is quieter and more able to accommodate us. Don’t forget to EXPRESS APPRECIATION and acknowledge people for kindnesses said or done.
